Five vehicles, including an Austin Maestro and a Saab 900, were involved in a crash on the A66 in County Durham at 10:15 on Friday 2 February 1996. The 67-year-old male driver of the Saab 900 was killed and the 27-year-old male driver of the Austin Maestro and the 34-year-old male driver of the Renault lorry were slightly injured.
